(CNN) South African prison authorities announced on the 24th that Oscar Pistorius, a prosthetic runner who is currently serving a sentence for the murder of his girlfriend in 2013, will be released on parole in January next year. The victim’s mother has criticized the inmate, saying it does not seem like he has been rehabilitated.

In 2013, Pistorius fired four shots at a woman through the bathroom door of his home. He denied killing the woman in a fit of anger, claiming he misidentified her as an intruder. The original sentence was 13 years and 5 months.

In a statement, the victim’s mother said she feared for the safety of other women after she was released on parole, and said her daughter’s death had left a “huge hole” in her life that would be hard to fill.

The mother’s statement was also read out by a representative outside the parole board’s meeting place.

In a statement, the mother said she forgives Pistorius but cannot believe his account of the incident.

“At this point, I don’t think Oscar (Pistorius) has been rehabilitated.” “Rehabilitation requires facing the full truth of the crime you committed and its consequences. Therefore, he cannot claim remorse.”

Pistorius was nicknamed the “Blade Runner” because of his carbon fiber prosthetic legs, and after competing in the 2012 London Olympics, he was praised as an inspiration to others. At his trial, he pleaded not guilty to murder and firearms charges.
