Indonesia has already confirmed its place in the quarter-finals Sudirman Cup 2021 with the status as group winners and will face one of the runner-up countries in the group.
Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and his friends made sure to finish at the top of Group C after beating Denmark 3-2. Previously, the Red and White team won 3-2 over Canada and beat Russia 5-0.
In the quarter-final match, Indonesia will certainly meet one of the group runners up.
Certainty regarding Indonesia’s opponents in the quarter-finals will be known after all group stage matches ended on Thursday (30/9) evening Indonesian time.
The following are potential opponents for Indonesia in the 2021 Sudirman Cup quarter-finals:
1. Thailand
The War Elephant team has already confirmed its place in the runner-up position in Group A. Thailand recorded victories over India and Finland before narrowly losing to China in the group winner match which took place on Wednesday (29/9) night.
Thailand’s squad contains top players such as mixed doubles Dechapol Puavaranukroh/Sapsiree Taerattanachai, and women’s doubles Jongkolphan Kitiharakul/Rawinda Prajongjai.
In addition, there was strong support from Kantaphon Wangcharoen, Kunlavut Vitidsarn, Pornpawee Chochuwong and Busanan Ongbamrungphan.
2. Taiwan
Taiwan is temporarily ranked first in Group B, but the final position of the standings will be determined through Taiwan’s meeting with South Korea on Thursday (30/9).
Without the women’s singles Tai Tzu-Ying and the men’s doubles Olympic gold medalist Lee Yang/Wang Chi-Lin, Taiwan can still speak through Chou Tien-Chen and Lu Ching-Yao/Yang Po-Han.
