The prosecutor’s son, who is accused of beating and threatening to kill his ex-girlfriend, submitted a request to the prosecutor’s office to remove the girl’s police guard.
In his reasons, Vasil Mihailov points out that the resource of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is being used without any need for it. He is charged with four threats to kill and beating 20-year-old Boryana Rangelova.
“The security was appointed at her request, and in the course of the pre-trial proceedings, sufficient evidence was collected from which it can be assumed that there is a danger to the life and health of the witness Rangelova,” commented Georgi Ivanov.
And even though he is accused, the prosecutor’s son insists that no one guard the girl.
“Bulgarian citizens are paying the wrong money for the whim of prosecutor Georgi Petkov Ivanov or that of Boryana Rangelova,” commented Vasil Mihailov.
“I think this is an extremely innovative case. This is absolutely procedurally inadmissible, as he is not among the persons who have the right to make such a request,” states Georgi Ivanov.
When bTV asked whether the prosecutor’s son’s request would be granted, the supervising prosecutor replied that it had already been rejected on the grounds that an accused person has no right to make such a request.
The Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office has yet to decide whether this decision is legal, bTV learned.
On Wednesday, Mihailov submitted a request to the city prosecutor’s office for the removal of supervising prosecutor Georgi Ivanov. In his reasons, he stated that the prosecutor requested alternative dates for hearing the case against him. The request is pending consideration.
Vasil Mihailov is on trial in two cases and there are charges against him for a total of 11 crimes. Among them are for causing moderate bodily harm to three people, slight bodily harm due to hooliganism to two, threatening to kill and hooliganism.
