Jaksa The Public Prosecutor (JPU) claimed to have persuaded the former leader of the Islamic Defenders Front (REIT), Rizieq Shihab so as not to escape from the trial in the case of alleged falsification of the results of the swab test at the Ummi Hospital, Bogor, which he followed from the courtroom at Bareskrim Polri.
“The team of prosecutors who were present at Bareskrim Polri had time to detain the defendant Muhammad Rizieq not to leave the courtroom,” said Head of the Legal Information Center (Kapuspenkum) at the AGO, Leonard Eben Ezer Simanjuntak to reporters in a written statement, Tuesday (16/3).
However, the effort was in vain. He explained that Rizieq kekeh left the courtroom because he felt that this was part of his right as a defendant in the case.
After the incident, he said, the Panel of Judges asked the prosecutor to virtually bring the defendant back to the courtroom.
“Up to the limit given by the Panel of Judges, the defendant was not persuaded to attend the trial,” added Leonard.
Therefore, the conference with item number 225/Pid.B/2021/PN.Jkt. The team failed to make it to the end today. The judge also adjourned the trial until Friday (19/3).
“Defendant Muhammad Rizieq’s attitude and objections were followed by six other defendants, except for the defendant Andi Tatat, who continued the trial on the agenda of reading the indictment,” he said.
Before the official trial was postponed, the trial was temporarily postponed or suspended for 30 minutes. This is because the trial was marred by chaos after the judge rejected Rizieq’s request to appear in person at the trial.
Rizieq and dozens of attorneys stated walk out from the trial. They considered that the judge had committed injustice by refusing to present Rizieq to the trial. The trial against Rizieq is scheduled to be held again on Friday (19/3).
For information, Rizieq underwent three court cases at the East Jakarta District Court on Tuesday (16/3). In addition to the alleged forgery of swab test results, he was also indicted in the crowd case in Petamburan and Megamendung, West Java, a few days after his return from Saudi Arabia in early November 2020.
In the case of Ummi Hospital, he was accused of Article 14 paragraph (1) of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 1 of 1946 concerning the Criminal Law Regulation Jo Article 55 paragraph (1) 1st of the Criminal Code.
Then, in the case of Megamendung, he is suspected of Article 93 of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 6 of 2018 on Health Quarantine juncto Article 55 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code.
In the Petamburan crowd case, Rizieq was one of them accused of Article 93 of Law Number 6 of 2018 concerning Health Quarantine with case number 226 / Pid.B / 2021 / PN.Jkt. Team.
