As a reason, the prosecutors cite Trump’s ‘almost daily’ attacks on social media, which he directs at people connected to the lawsuit. This is evident from court documents released on Friday, the American newspaper further writes.
Judge Chutkan is presiding over Trump’s alleged obstruction of the 2020 election.
In their request, prosecutors say some of the people Trump attacked on social media subsequently received threats from others. His comments could also have consequences for witnesses and the selection of a jury for the trial that will start in March next year in Washington.
Prosecutors write that “much like his public disinformation campaign about the 2020 presidential election,” his recent statements are intended to undermine public confidence in the justice system. In addition, prosecutors believe his statements intimidate individuals, according to The New York Times.
They therefore want Trump to be prohibited from making derogatory or intimidating statements about people mentioned in the case. Prosecutors also want him to stop making statements about future witnesses.
