The sluice gate of Lake Karla, due to which waters and in recent weeks tons of fish end up in the Pagasitic Gulf, could not be closed. This refers to a multi-page conclusion of the Volos Prosecutor’s Office, which had ordered a relevant investigation on the occasion of last year’s floods in Larissa and which was completed last February.
The reason for the investigation was the complaint submitted on September 22, by the mayor of Volos, Achilles Beosafter an autopsy he had done in the area of Karla, complaining that quantities of water, contaminated by the waters of Pinios, into which sewage was being diverted from the biological Larissas that suffered damage after the floods, ended up in the Pagasitikos Gulf.
For the lawsuit, the “fate” of which the mayor of Volos was looking for, a preliminary investigation had been carried out and the conclusion seems to answer today’s question as well “why the gate barrier had not been closed” and tons of fish from Karla ended up in the Pagasitikos Gulf.
Information from the newspaper “Tachydromos” of Magnesia states that this is a multi-page conclusion, based on which the barrier is not allowed to be closed. The research, which was carried out during the winter months, came to three main points:
“Carla wasn’t infected”
– The quality of the waters of the Pagasitic Gulf was not affected by the entry of waters from Carla.
-The sluice gate could not be closed because the flood situation had to be relieved.
– Also, it is stated that the opening of the barrier follows the rules set by the Law.
The multi-page opinion was issued at the beginning of February and was even submitted to the Appellate Prosecutor’s Office of Larisa. With the decision of two independent prosecutors, it was decided that there was no problem at the time and the mayor’s lawsuit was dismissed.
The finding has never seen the light of day, until recently and with the occasion of the phenomenon of dead fish, because of which a public debate has started again about the Carla barrier.
