Prosecutor’s Office rejects ELN armed strike in Chocó • La Nación


The Attorney General’s Office rejected the announcement of a new armed strike in the Choco region of Medio San Juan, made by the illegal armed group ELN and asked the Government to intervene urgently to protect those communities.

Faced with this serious situation, which has more than 25,000 families confined and without the possibility of access to food, health and education, the Delegate Attorney for Human Rights, Javier Sarmiento Olarte, called on the National Government to fulfill its duty Constitution to protect the lives and rights of these people and review the implications of these strikes and armed actions in the negotiations that are taking place with these illegal groups.

“The civilian population cannot continue to be the victim of clashes between illegal armed groups that have manifested their alleged desire for peace. Neither as a State, nor as a society, we can admit or allow the occurrence of these events.” Delegate Sarmiento Olarte assured.
