The hearing began this Monday and will last until Thursday.
From this Monday until next Thursday, May 19, a hearing is being held to review the precautionary measures against the six mayors investigated in the case known as Diamante.
The Deputy Prosecutor for Integrity, Transparency and Anticorruption reported that it had requested this hearing from the Criminal Court of Finance and Public Administration, during which it will request the extension of the precautionary measures.
Although they did not provide more details, Federico Campos, lawyer for the mayor of San José, Johnny Araya (who is suspended from office as part of the measures) confirmed that the hearing began today and will last until Thursday.
It should be remembered that the aforementioned case investigates the alleged payment of gifts and bribes by the construction companies MECO and Explotec, to officials of the municipalities of San José, Cartago, San Carlos, Alajuela, Escazú and Osa; in exchange for favors in awarding contracts, advance payment of invoices and other favors.
The mayors of these cantons, namely: Jhonny Araya, Mario Redondo, Alfredo Córdoba, Humberto Soto, Arnoldo Barahona and Jorge Alberto Cole were arrested after 40 raids were carried out in different locations on November 15.
On November 19, at the request of the same prosecutor’s office, precautionary measures were issued that expire this week, among which is the suspension of their charges for at least six months, an impediment to leaving the country and the prohibition to communicate with witnesses in the case. .
