Prosecutors investigating the Itaewon disaster launched a second search and seizure of Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Commissioner Kim Gwang-ho (59), who is suspected of causing death due to work-related negligence.

On the morning of the 26th, the Seoul Western District Prosecutor’s Office sent prosecutors and investigators to the office of Commissioner Kim, located on the 9th floor of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency in Naeja-dong, Jongno-gu, to secure investigation data such as business records before and after the disaster.

It is known that the targets of the search and seizure include the 112 Safety General Situation Room and Situation Command Center of the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the Ministry of Public Safety and Security, and the Department of Public Safety Information and Foreign Affairs.

On-site inspections are also being carried out in Commissioner Kim’s office, the 112 Safety General Situation Room, and the Situation Command Center.

This is to understand how the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s work system, such as reporting and disseminating the situation, was carried out in detail on the day of the disaster.

Prosecutors believe that the Seoul Metropolitan Government failed to handle 112 reports prior to the disaster and failed to properly manage the situation after the disaster, increasing the damage.

In particular, we are focusing on the working conditions of Ryu Mi-jin (51), former head of the personnel education department (superintendent) and Jeong Dae-gyeong, former 112 Situation 3 Team Leader (police officer), who were on duty at the Seoul Metropolitan Government Situation Management Officer on the day of the disaster.

On the 13th, Superintendent Ryu and Superintendent Jeong, along with Commissioner Kim, were sent without detention to the prosecution on charges of negligence and accidental death.

This is the second search and seizure of Commissioner Kim’s office. On the 18th, five days after the case was sent from the police special investigation headquarters (special version), the prosecution conducted a search and seizure of Commissioner Kim’s office and the office of the public relations officer at the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
