Two police officers were acquitted by the Surabaya District Court in the Stadium Tragedy case recommendation, Malang, East Java. The Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) said it would file an appeal.
“Regarding the decision of the panel of judges at the Surabaya District Court in the case of the Kanjuruhan Stadium Tragedy, Malang, against Defendant Bambang Sidik Achmadi and Defendant Wahyu Setyo Pranoto who were acquitted, the public prosecutor has declared an appeal,” said the Head of the Information Center (Kapuspen) of the Attorney General’s Office, Ketut Sumedana in his statement, Saturday (18/3/2023).
Meanwhile, for the defendants, Chief of Panpel Arema Abdul Haris who was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months, Security Officer Arema Suko Sutrisno who was sentenced to 1 year, and the former Danki Mobile Brigade Officer Hasdarmawan who was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months, Ketut said the prosecutor would study the decision.
“The public prosecutor will further study the complete decision regarding the legal facts and legal considerations applied in the case,” he said.
2 Police Officers Acquitted
As is known, the sentencing hearing for the two police officers accused in the Kanjuruhan Tragedy case was held at the Surabaya District Court (PN), Thursday (16/3). The judge ordered the two defendants to be released from custody.
Against AKP Bambang Sidik Achmadi, the judge considered that the first officer of the National Police was acquitted of charges 1 and 2. In fact, the prosecutor demanded 3 years in prison against Bambang.
“Declaring that the Defendant Bambang Sidiq Ahmadi has not been proven legally and convincingly guilty as in the first, second and third charges of the Public Prosecutor,” said the chairman of the panel of judges at the Surabaya District Court Abu Achmad Sidqi Amsya when reading the verdict.
“Ordered that the Defendant be released from detention immediately after this decision was pronounced,” added the judge.
Then Wahyu Setyo Pranoto was also acquitted even though he was charged with 3 years in prison.
