Prosecutor accuses nine defendants of corruption crimes in public-private partnerships – Jornal Económico

The Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) has brought charges against nine defendants who are suspected of committing crimes of corruption, prevarication of political office holders, money laundering and economic participation in business, it was announced today.

The Regional Attorney General of Coimbra states in a statement published on its website that, according to the prosecution, the municipalities of Trancoso, Alcobaça, Sabugal and Gouveia are involved, and a legal person dedicated to civil construction.

“The facts go back to the period between 2007 and 2011 and occurred in the context of institutional public-private partnerships”, he adds.

According to the note, “the awarding of partnerships and subsequent collusive contracts is imputed between the holders of political offices, on the one hand, and the representatives of the legal person, on the other”.

The MP mentions that, overall, “illicit advantages of more than four million euros were found, whose loss in favor of the State was sought”.

“In the case of the imputation of a crime of passive corruption, this applies to one of the ex-municipal officials, who will have received undue advantages in the amount of about 560 thousand euros, concealed through family members”, reads.

In the investigation, the MP of the Regional Department of Investigation and Penal Action (DIAP) of Coimbra had the collaboration of the Judicial Police of Coimbra and the assistance of the Technical Advisory Center of the Attorney General’s Office.
