A special prosecutor in the United States wants to prosecute Hunter Biden, the president’s son, before the end of this month. A so-called grand jury has yet to make a verdict. This is stated in documents submitted to a court.
This is an indictment in a case that revolves around illegal possession of weapons. He would not have reported that he used cocaine when purchasing a weapon in 2018.
Federal prosecutors have also long been investigating Hunter Biden’s business activities. He is also accused of tax fraud.
Earlier this month, Attorney General Garland gave a prosecutor in the Biden investigation “special prosecutor” status. He has more powers than a normal prosecutor and is not accountable to the ministry.
No settlement
In June, Hunter Biden seemed to reach a settlement with the judiciary, but that deal fell through at the last minute. Biden wanted to plead guilty to some tax evasion charges, so he would not be prosecuted for possession of a firearm as a drug user. That would avoid jail time. A judge who had yet to approve the settlement, struck it down because the conditions were not clear.
The case against his son also affects the president. Since the Republicans have won the majority in the House of Representatives, several investigations have been opened into the financial dealings of the Bidens. Republicans want to show that Joe Biden directly interfered in his son’s business activities and is guilty of corruption. Evidence for this has not yet been provided.
