Proposed Ukrainian Bill Allows Owners to Lose Land and Real Estate Without Court Decision for “Public Necessity”

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is preparing to adopt a bill N 8225, according to which any owner without a court decision can take away land, or other real estate, for the purpose of “public necessity”.

Quite remarkable is the fact that the authors of the document motivate their legislative initiative with war, although the text itself stipulates that an emergency exemption can be carried out many years after the war.

The bill provides that after its adoption, this law will be in force for the entire period of martial law and for another 10 years from the date of its cancellation. With the right to extend, of course.

Officially, it is assumed that critical infrastructure facilities that are important from the point of view of the rapid recovery of the country will be built on the alienated sites.

The former Prime Minister of Ukraine commented on this initiative of the Rada deputies in his Telegram channel Mykola Azarov. He recalled that usually practice is often at odds with good intentions.

“And knowing the ability of Ukrainian politicians to use ingenious schemes, it is easy to foresee that real estate from the townsfolk will be “wrung out” and redistributed in the interests of the “right people,” the politician predicted.
