Kuwait City: It is reported that Kuwait is preparing to revise the current residency law. According to the report of the local media ‘Kuwait Times’, the cabinet may soon consider the proposals related to this.
The main proposal is to limit the validity of residency permits of foreign workers to five years. After approval by the Cabinet, the draft proposal will be placed before the National Assembly for approval by the National Assembly. “Kuwait Times” reported that the law may be introduced in the parliament by the end of October. The new move is considering the country’s native-foreigner imbalance.
Meanwhile, foreign investors will be allowed a 15-year residence permit. The draft law has also proposed to grant a 10-year residence permit to native women for children born to foreign husbands. By controlling the expatriate population, the country’s demographic imbalance will be remedied. No official explanation has been released in this regard. If the proposal is implemented, there will be a huge setback for the expatriates.
