Members of the “New Unity” propose to ban the organization of sports games in Latvia with the participation of the national or youth teams of Russia or Belarus. As the head of the Saeima Sports subcommittee Dāvis Mārtiņš Daugavietis explains in a post on the “X” platform, the amendments are necessary in connection with this week’s immoral decision of the Association of European Football Federations to allow Russian youth national teams to participate in international tournaments.
At a meeting in Vienna yesterday, the foreign ministers of Austria, Slovakia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Hungary called to keep open lines of communication with Russia and to use the European Security and Cooperation Organization to promote peace in Ukraine. The OSCE is one of the few European-wide organizations of which Russia is still a member, and emphasizing unconditional support for Ukraine, the ministers called for ensuring the influence of this organization in the future.
This year, 186,000 migrants have arrived in Europe via the Mediterranean Sea, according to the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. About 130,000 of them were registered in Italy, which is 83% more than in the same period last year. From the beginning of the year to September 24, more than 2,500 people have died or gone missing trying to cross the Mediterranean by boat to reach Europe.
