Diaa Rashwan, the general coordinator of the National Dialogue, suggested the importance of stipulating in the law on the exercise of political rights that election days be official holidays in return for applying a fine for non-participation in the electoral process, which is set at 500 pounds, in light of supporting everyone’s participation in the electoral process, saying: “Election days are a holiday in return for the decisive application of the 500-pound fine.”
Rashwan stressed, during his speech today at the session of directing political rights in the national dialogue, in light of the sessions of the political axis, that this step would support participation in the electoral process on the ground.
Rashwan suggested amending Article 2 of the Law on the Exercise of Political Rights regarding identifying those deprived of exercising political rights, by including those who carry out electoral crimes while achieving a balance in the penalties for these crimes stipulated in the existing law, pointing out that whoever practices any electoral crime must be deprived of Exercise political rights, and he may not exercise his political role or his electoral right, calling also for the importance of reviewing the text of Article 29 of the Law on Exercise of Political Rights regarding the role of the media in monitoring the electoral process.
Rashwan called for reviewing Article 39 of the law and setting special controls for the referendum and not leaving the matter to the National Elections Authority to determine the period for putting the referendum topics for discussion in the street, calling for setting special controls as is done in any electoral process, and reviewing Article 50 of the Law on the Exercise of Political Rights, especially with regard to It is related to Egyptians abroad, which is one of the dilemmas in any electoral process, indicating that Egypt has 10 million and the maximum participation took place from them was 350 thousand, then the numbers declined and the reason is the logistical framework, and then the article must be amended in order for the decision to be for the National Elections Authority And choose the method of their election, even if it is electronic.
