As you know, a category B driving license allows you to drive vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tons. The exceptions are buses, motorcycles and low-speed agricultural vehicles. The first two cannot be driven, while in the latter case it is the other way around, despite the usually greater mass.
However, MEP Karima Delli, a French politician from the Green Party, argues that the current regulations are defective. And it’s about SUVs, which, in the MP’s opinion, require in-depth driver trainingand therefore additional regulations.
Heavier, which means more dangerous, especially considering the driver’s inexperience
As the MP explains, a typical SUV weighs more than 1,800 kg, which is why… it is even twice as heavy as small city cars. In the event of a collision, the damage calculation is obvious. Meanwhile, car schools usually use small cars as part of their courses, so in Della’s opinion, young drivers they do not have appropriate situational awareness.
The suggested solution to this problem is to introduce a new driving license category, B+, which would authorize to drive passenger cars weighing 1,800 kg or more. Moreover, according to the project, only people with at least 2 years of experience on the road could apply for such a document.
To the delight of those interested, the chances of materializing this concept are rather slim, and not only due to the current position of the Greens in the European Parliament. Alone the proposed tonnage limit can be easily questioned because, for example, the Tesla Model 3 in the 75 kWh version weighs 1,730 kg, and the Model S weighs over 2 tons.. I don’t want to fight with Dell electricians anymore.
