Property tax, Helge Andre Njåstad | FRP will deprive the municipalities of the opportunity to increase the property tax

The government must remove the loophole in the property tax that allows the municipalities to increase the tax level, demands Frp.

In the state budget for next year, the government proposes that the maximum property tax rate for residential and leisure property be reduced from 5 to 4 per thousand. This is in line with the agreement between the government parties and the Progress Party on a revised national budget for 2020.

By increasing the value of the homes, the municipality can still send out a higher tax bill to the inhabitants, writes Aftenposten / E24.

FRP’s Helge André Njåstad says the party in the budget negotiations will demand that the municipalities be deprived of this opportunity.

– Municipalities that deviate from the guidelines of the parliamentary majority are cheating. These are clear guidelines from the top team and it is expected that this will be followed, he says.

A survey by the National Association of Homeowners shows that the reduction of the maximum rate for residential and leisure property from 7 to 5 per thousand in 2020 did not result in as large a cut in tax revenues as expected.

According to the Homeowners, several municipalities will take action that increases the estimated value of the homes next year. The municipalities thus expect to collect 7.8 billion in property tax revenues next year. That is 200 million more than this year, despite the tax rate being further cut.
