“Please don’t put dog poop in the trash!” These posters hang here and there in Aalter on public rubbish bins. Much to the dismay on social media. People wonder where they should go with their dog poop when they take their four-legged friend for a walk. “Should we perhaps eat it then?” asks an inhabitant of Aalter on Facebook.

“The posters have a good intention, but unfortunately they are expressed a bit incorrectly,” says alderman Dirk De Smul (CD&V), who is responsible for the Aalter Proper service. “Actually, we want to say that dog poop should always be put in a poop bag first, and only then in the rubbish bin. Our workmen from Aalter Proper otherwise have to clean the inside of the rubbish bins all too often, and that is not the nicest job. Dog poop is certainly allowed in the rubbish bin, but first in a poop bag. We will adjust the posters.”
