Propeller Mars Rover Ingenuity Reestablishes Communication with Earth After 63-Day Gap

Continued loss of communication since the last flight in April

On the 30th of last month, we contacted again dramatically.

The first propeller exploration vehicle ‘Ingenuity’ that flew in the sky of Mars succeeded in reestablishing communication with Earth two months after it was cut off.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announced on the 30th (local time) that the Ingenuity, a small helicopter exploring Mars, has been able to communicate again after a 63-day radio gap.

Ingenuity, a small drone, arrived on Mars in 2021 along with Percybeerlins, an unmanned robot exploration rover that landed on Mars.

There have been cases where rovers have landed on Mars and explored the surface of Mars, but Ingenuity is the first vehicle to fly and explore the surface of Mars. Ingenuity takes on the role of supporting Percivirance.

After landing on Mars, Ingenuity completed a 30-day test mission to verify technology for air exploration of Mars, and completed dozens of flights to find traces of ancient life.

Communication with Ingenuity was cut off after the 52nd flight on April 26th. NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in California, USA, reported that Ingenuity, which had taken flight, lost contact during the subsequent landing.

Then, on the 30th, communication was cut off, and communication was successful again two months later. “It’s been a while since I’ve heard from Ingenuity,” said Joshua Anderson, team leader at NASA’s Jet Injection Laboratory. I feel relieved,” he said.

Ingenuity is reported to be in good condition with no major damage. After the inspection is completed, it is known that the Mars exploration will continue to the west. Ingenuity also lost communication for about six days in April.
