Propaganda has to go to the cinema · Dlf Nova

As of this week, cinemas in China have had to show films at least twice a week that report positively on the Communist Party and socialism in China.

In July the Communist Party was founded exactly 100 years ago and the Chinese government wants to get the people in the mood for the celebration with the films. The instruction to the cinemas said that “a great and warm atmosphere should be created for the festival”. The state film authority wants that there is always a large audience in the cinema during the screenings. The tickets should be cheaper, and officials, party members and employees of state companies should be obliged to watch the films.

An ARD correspondent reports that state propaganda and nationalism in China have increased in culture in recent years. Critical content has been pushed back.
