Proof that the new coronavirus has appeared in Italy since November 2019. The virus was found in the tests of a child

Sars-CoV-2 has appeared in Italy since November 2019, three months before patient zero ”in Codogno. This is demonstrated by the oropharyngeal swab of a 4-year-old child, taken to the emergency room at that time with respiratory symptoms and vomiting.

The next day, spots similar to those of measles appeared on the child’s skin, but this was not the infectious disease that affected him.

The swab, later analyzed, showed that the reason for the child’s illness was the coronavirus, at least three months before the official appearance of the virus in Italy, with the so-called “zero patient” from Codogno.

Potrivit Corriera della Sera, this was revealed by a study conducted by the State University of Milan, published in the journal Emerging Infectious Diseases.

“The idea was to subsequently investigate all cases of exanthematous disease identified in Milan by the measles and rubella surveillance network between September and February, negative results in laboratory investigations for measles.”, explains Silvia Bianchi, one of the authors of the paper.

Sars-CoV-2 infection can cause symptoms similar to Kawasaki disease, common to other viral infections, such as measles.

The fact that the virus has been circulating for some time was a plausible hypothesis, the researchers say, given the sudden and violent impact of the pandemic.

The long and unrecognized spread of coronavirus in northern Italy could explain, at least in part, the devastating impact and rapid evolution of the first wave.

The study, coordinated by Elisabetta Tanzi, was conducted in the WHO (World Health Organization) accredited laboratory for measles and rubella surveillance.
