It’s time to work together. This is how the former Prime Minister Kiril Petkov gave a special answer to “Maritsa” about whether “We continue the change” and “Democratic Bulgaria” will have joint lists not only in the local elections, but also in the possible early parliamentary vote in March-April.
The National Council of the PP at its meeting on Wednesday evening gave a mandate to the leaders Kiril Petkov and Asen Vassilev to start talks with “Democratic Bulgaria”, “Save Sofia” and all other formations that “work for a prosperous, fair and European Bulgaria”, with aim of potential unifications for the next local and national elections in the country. According to our information, there was no hesitation in the PP for the mayoral vote. Most of the arguments were about the upcoming parliamentary elections, but in general the opinion of a common front prevailed.
The idea of a coalition was proposed by DB even before the last parliamentary elections, but then “Promyanata” rejected the invitation with the argument that the two formations have different electorates and the unification will not lead to a higher result.
Now, however, Petkov is adamant that a large coalition is forming for the next appearance at the polls, which is looming at the end of March or the beginning of April.
Later, before the media in the parliament, he confirmed that there is a will for a general coalition in the elections, not only with “Democratic Bulgaria”, but also with other civil movements. Petkov defined the future partners as “good forces”.
The co-chairman of the DB Hristo Ivanov also confirmed that there will be negotiations for joint participation in all types of elections this year, and the right-wing coalition likes the idea in principle.
Especially for “Maritsa”, Plovdiv deputies of PP and DB commented that there will certainly be a candidate for mayor and general lists for municipal councilors under the hill. Despite all rumors, at the moment there is no decision on who will attack the place of Zdravko Dimitrov. Names are also being discussed in local structures, as well as at a high level between Petkov, Vasilev and Hristo Ivanov. So far, there is absolutely no favorite.
It is interesting that several local structures of current and former parliamentary forces have expressed a desire to participate in a coalition in the local elections in Plovdiv together with PP and DB.
