Promotional campaign with Emden: Online shop Otto now advertises on Tiktok with Otto Waalkes

For the anniversary of the mail order company Otto, which has turned 75, the Emden-born comedian is appearing with the German boy band Elevator Boys and the influencer Lena Mantler and is showing the new Adidas sneaker series “Otto x adidas Sneaker”. A limited number of 1,949 sneakers with Otto Waalkes’ signature and “Ottifants” are to be raffled off.

The Hamburg mail order company’s “Otto – the shoe” campaign will run from August 19 to October 31, 2024 on TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat, among others, according to a press release from the company. “In short videos, Waalkes delves into the world of influencers and becomes part of their humor. For example, Otto tries on different outfits with Lena and sings along with the Elevator Boys,” it continues.

On August 19, the Elevator Boys posted a video on Tiktok in which they play a popular online game with Otto Waalkes. One of them has to guess what the favorite dish, favorite youth word and favorite animal is for another member of the group. Otto’s favorite dish is “truffled pear hip in its own juice” and “cucumber loin”. His favorite word is “Shüsh” because it reminds him of a little sloth.

His favorite animal is, of course, the Ottifant. His biggest “ick,” or something that annoys him, is when someone thinks they can draw Ottifants faster than him. His favorite song is, of course, “Friesenjung” and his favorite item of clothing is the “Friesennerz.” When people start to wonder when the shoes will be advertised, Otto asks what the five Tiktok boys’ favorite item of clothing is. “They always wear the same shoes, what are they wearing right now?”

The channel of the online retailer Otto is currently advertising Otto, the Elevator Boys and Adidas in seven clips. One is an Ottifanten quick drawing challenge, Otto dances and jokes, laces up his sneakers against the clock or poses with young people. Of course, the classic Otto gang cannot be missed. The videos have already been clicked on hundreds of thousands of times in a very short space of time, and have been commented on and liked countless times. The first video has already been viewed 1.2 million times.
