Japanese media reported that Joe Biden’s US administration is promoting the’Quad’ video summit, an alliance agreement between the United States, Japan, Australia and India.
Japan’s Kyodo News Agency quoted government sources on the 7th and said that the United States, Japan, Australia and India are coordinating plans to conduct the first meeting between the’Quad’ summit through video.
It is known that the promotion of the video summit was made with a proposal from the United States.
When the meeting is held, the media reported that the leaders are expected to discuss ways to cooperate to realize a free and open Indo-Pacific in response to China’s expanding influence in the region.
Japanese media reported that it is up to India how soon the meeting will be held.
India, the only country participating in the’quad’ bordering China, is known to be somewhat cautious about strengthening the’quad’ alliance.
The quad allies held a meeting of foreign ministers in New York, USA in September 2019 and Tokyo, Japan in October last year, but no summit has been held yet.
At a meeting in October last year, the quad foreign ministers confirmed their position that “India and the Pacific should be maintained as free and open spaces” and decided to strengthen solidarity for this.
