Fronts for the defense of Chimbote and Nuevo Chimbote call on institutions and citizens to visit the only green lung in the southern district
The Nuevo Chimbote Defense Front and the Defense and Development Front of the Santa Province announced the development of a caravan called “Let’s save the San Antonio forest” with the aim of promoting the rescue of the only green lung of the Nuevo Chimbote district.
The San Antonio Forest is a degraded and systematically destroyed natural area, which from more than 80 hectares has now been reduced to 17 hectares.
“It is completely abandoned and no one is looking after it,” lamented the president of the Nuevo Chimbote Defence Front, Rolly Ramírez.
The area is registered in the name of the Provincial Municipality of Santa, but last year the District Municipality of Nuevo Chimbote began the process of transferring it. However, the Chimbote municipality has not yet made a decision.
The current state of the forest led the defense fronts of Chimbote and Nuevo Chimbote to promote a mobilization of civil society this Saturday, September 7.
This is a caravan that will gather at 9 a.m. at the Parque de La Cultura, from where it will depart for the San Antonio forest.
