Elkarrekin proposes promoting energy self-consumption for companies and homes turning Vitoria-Gasteiz into a large solar rooftop. It will do so with a deployment of solar panels on roofs and covers of urban buildings.
According to the coalition, various municipal reports agree “indicating the great potential that Vitoria has for the use of solar radiation to obtain electrical energy.” But “instead of implementing renewables in a massive and invasive way, Elkarrekin’s approach involves the placement of photovoltaic installations on the infinity of roofs and covers available in the city”.

By this formula aims to reduce energy dependency, thus contributing “to the decarbonization process of the municipality in line with the requirements established by Europe.” At the same time, Elkarrekin’s proposal ensures “fair economic development and a sustainable energy transition”.
“There are companies and small businesses that ensure that it does not compensate them to raise the blind for electric bills that they have to face. We have to move towards energy self-sufficiency through renewables to help our local economic fabric.”

Bet on an Advisory Office
In addition, the coalition is committed to giving “the definitive boost to communities and energy cooperatives with the creation and implementation of an advisory office to help communities solve all the bureaucratic procedures for their development”. For Oscar Fernández, Elkarrekin’s candidate, “Vitoria-Gasteiz has great potential for photovoltaic energy but we are lagging behind in the energy transition”.
They will also work “on the preparation of a municipal Ordinance for the energy transition, which promotes energy self-consumption in any of its variants, the generation of renewable energy in the municipality, the energy rehabilitation of buildings, savings and efficiency”.
Surplus power will go to vulnerable families
In addition, they also aspire to achieve that “surplus energy generated in municipal buildings is allocated to vulnerable families or to energy communities to alleviate energy poverty”.
Finally, another of the priority areas will be “the approval and development of the Integrated Energy Transition Action Plan (PATEI)” for “mitigate greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) and advance in the city’s energy transition”.
