Those who do an apprenticeship and move out from home may receive vocational training allowance (BAB). The Federal Employment Agency points this out on its “Planet-Beruf” portal.
However, there are some requirements for the BAB. Only those who do a recognized dual vocational training are entitled. In addition, the benefit is only available if young people have to move because the business is too far away from their parents’ home.
The vocational training allowance
Anyone who is over 18 years old or has a child, for example, can have their entitlement checked. BAB is applied for at the responsible employment agency and does not have to be repaid. The amount depends on various factors, such as the training allowance.
There are some sample calculations in the BAB information sheet from the employment agency. You can also use the employment agency’s BAB computer to check whether you are likely to be authorized.
In addition, if you move for training, funding under the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG) or housing benefit can bring financial relief.
Further training can also be financially supported under certain conditions. The Federal Government’s “Good Work” guide gives an overview. For example, those who want to continue their education can consider the following offers:
If you want to catch up on your professional qualification, for example, you can, under certain circumstances, look forward to the so-called advanced training bonus. In the case of retraining, there is a bonus of 1,000 euros for the intermediate examination that has been passed and 1,500 euros for the final exam. Proof of passing the exam must be submitted to the employment agency, which also has further information.
Anyone who would like to continue their education on their own, for example with a language course, can find out more about the so-called education bonus. The Federal Ministry of Education supports employees with a bonus of 500 euros. According to the guide, those who are 25 years of age or older are eligible for the subsidy if their taxable income is less than 20,000 euros. Important information is summarized on www.bildungspraemie.info.
With the Aufstiegs-BAföG, advanced training qualifications such as master craftsman, technician or business economist are promoted. You can find out more on the website www.aufstiegs-bafög.de.
Last but not least, scholarships can also be used to finance further training. With the state-funded advancement or further training scholarship, skilled workers receive, for example, grants for studying or demanding further training. You can check the offers on the website of the Foundation for Talented Vocational Education (SBB) at www.sbb-stipendien.de.
