London –
Arsenal tested the trio Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Martin Odegaard in trials against Manchester United. Mikel Arteta acknowledge their appearance yet sip.
Arteta tried out the new midfield trio, when Arsenal faced MU in a trial at MetLife Stadium, New Jersey, Sunday (23/7/2023). He fielded two new recruits, namely Rice and Havertz, complemented by Odegaard.
Arsenal themselves ultimately lost 0-2 in this match. MU won thanks to goals from Bruno Fernandes and Jadon Sancho took advantage of the Gunners’ mistakes.
However, in terms of play, Arteta sees promise in his midfield trio who will be the engines of attack. Still far from perfect, but Arteta is optimistic that time will polish them.
“When they play 55 times together, everything will be better, the game will flow better, they will understand each other better and we will be more dominant,” he said.
“But things take time to slide and we have to respect that. I see a lot of positives, things that I really like more than when we won (against the MLS All-Stars) even though the results were very different,” the former midfielder was quoted as saying Sky Sports.
