Prominent member of Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps killed in Tehran | Abroad

The Revolutionary Guard is an elite military corps of the Iranian army and is on the United States’ terrorist list.

Colonel Khodai is the highest-ranking victim of an assassination attempt in Iran since the assassination of prominent scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh in 2020. Iran accused Israel of the latter murder at the time. Those responsible for the latest assassination attempt, the IRGC said, are “elements associated with global arrogance” — a reference to the US and its allies, including Israel.

On Sunday, the IRGC arrested members of a network of Israeli intelligence services in Tehran, ISNA reports. They allegedly attempted to “steal and destroy personal and public property” and planned kidnappings, the IRGC said in a statement.

The arrests of the Israelis by the IRCG appear to be unrelated to the assassination of Colonel Khodai.
