Prominent Iraqi Artist Yas Khader Mourned by Dozens

Dozens of people mourned, at noon, Saturday, the body of the late Iraqi artist Yas Khader, who passed away on Friday evening, at the age of 85, after suffering from illness.

The funeral ceremony took place in the Iraqi Artists Syndicate building in central Baghdad, with the participation of a group of prominent Iraqi artists.

And the Artists Syndicate mourned in a statement, “The Departure of the Voice of the Earth,” the artist Yas Khader, “who passed away due to an incurable disease.”

The great Iraqi artist initially worked as a “ticket cutter” at Abu Sakhir Hospital in Najaf, his hometown, but then turned into one of the most prominent stars of Iraqi singing.

Among his most prominent songs are “Layl Al-Banafsj”, “Marina Beykom Hamad” and “Han wa Anah Ahan”, all of which were written by the late poet Muzaffar Al-Nawab.

Iraqi President Abd al-Latif Jamal Rashid offered condolences on the death of the artist, Yas Khader, and stressed that he “left a distinguished artistic legacy in the history of Iraqi art.”

The death of Yas Khadr came a few hours after the death of the great poet Karim al-Iraqi at the age of 68, after a long struggle with cancer.
