The doyen of Bulgarian anesthesiology and resuscitation, Prof. Milan Milanov, has died, the NI Pirogov Hospital announced, quoted by the BNR.

Prof. Milanov was born in 1945 in the city of Sofia. He graduated in medicine in 1973. His professional career began as a doctor in the Emergency Department and an anesthesiologist in the newly established OARIL in the District Hospital – Sliven.

In 1977, he started working as an anesthesiologist-resuscitator and research assistant in the Central Resuscitation Unit with the Operating Unit of the Pirogov RNPIMSP, where his main professional path was for 40 years, occupying the positions of department head and Head of the Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Clinic treatment.

Prof. Milan Milanov was the director of NISMP “Pirogov” between 1992-1993.

During the democratic changes, he was a major participant in the restoration of the Bulgarian Medical Union, twice its deputy chairman. From 2012 to 2017, he was the chairman of the Metropolitan College of the BLS.

Deputy Minister of Health in the government of Filip Dimitrov. He is the first national consultant in donation and emergency medicine.
