Concerts, fans, music and recognition of colleagues. Kiril Marichkov had everything a player could dream of, but until his last day, a cruel tragedy tore the cricketing soul apart. The great singer did not forget himself for killing a woman on the road at the end of the last century.

On the way back from a demonstration in Asenovgrad in 1999, where he sang in support of the mayoral candidate of the UDS, Dr. Svetozar Shumanov, the Volkswagen Passat driven by Marichkov collided with a Ford Sierra of 33-year-old Atanas. Hristina Chinchiikova died on the spot from the Ford. Traffic cops had to cut the car’s sheet metal to remove its mangled body. With concussions, concussions and head wounds, Atanas was in the hospital. His 7-year-old son has a broken arm, but his life is not in danger.

Kiril Marichkov escaped with a concussion. It is placed in the First Surgery of the Higher Medical Institute under the mountains. They released it in two weeks. The truth shows that the “driver” is to blame for the bad accident, who did not stop at the stop sign and took the right path from the Ford moving to Plovdiv. Maybe Marichkov didn’t understand what was going on, because there was no sign of a brake line from his Volkswagen Passat.

A few months later, Kiril humbly heard his sentence at the District Court in Plovdiv – 3 years of conditional imprisonment and 5 years of probation. For 3 years, he is also deprived of the right to drive a car. The sentence comes after an agreement between the prosecutor in the case and the defense of the musician.

“This is the biggest misfortune in my life that I had to go through with my family. I thought that I would not be able to sing on stage and write songs anymore. I went through all very hard thing. The accident still weighs on my conscience.” Marichkov openly admits in one of the rare interviews in which he mentions the accident.

Although it was only partially his fault, the smart musician suffered for decades; “I was driving on a first class road. However, at one point behind the guard rail there was a stop sign, which was hidden behind the bushes and was not visible. However, the sign did not go put this on the right, as it is according to the rules, but on the left.

After that, Sturetsa was convicted and his license was taken away for 5 years. “This spontaneity of mine, the fact that I say everything to everyone’s eyes, is a great fault for me, apparently. God gave me a hard lesson. You think you without sin? No,” admitted the musician.

Strangely, the accident happened on October 10. Just 25 years later, an accident killed Marichkov himself.
