“Connected Guyana” and “School outside the walls” Projects to Receive 2 Million Euro Subsidy

The Rectorate of Guyana and the GIP FICP of Mayotte have been awarded a subsidy of at least 2 million euros over 5 years for their respective projects, “Connected Guyana” and “School outside the walls.” These projects aim to address key strategic areas in education and bring innovative approaches to the classroom.

The “Connected Guyana” project will focus on proposing methods of school organization that guarantee better learning, support students’ career development, and foster the development of 21st-century skills. By leveraging a geostationary satellite, the project will deploy 6th and 5th-grade classes in different locations within French Guiana, allowing students to follow the same curriculum and interact with different teachers and classmates. The first classes are set to open in Taluen, Antecum-pata, and Kayodé at the beginning of the 2023 school year.

It is worth noting that the “Connected Guyana” project aligns strategically with the AMI “Skills and professions of the future” initiative and will be financed by the latter. This synergy will enable the projects to work together towards common goals and maximize their impact.

The “School outside the walls” project aims to conduct class immersion sessions outside traditional school establishments to raise awareness of the surrounding space. School administrators have already expressed interest in implementing this innovative approach at the start of the 2023 school year. By stepping outside the confines of the classroom, students will have the opportunity to explore and learn from their environment in a hands-on manner.

Both projects are part of the broader “Innovation in the school form” AMI, which seeks to support the design and experimentation of new school forms that promote cooperation and adapt to the needs of students. The Ministry of National Education emphasizes that these initiatives are driven by a logic of innovation, experimentation, and strong territorial collaboration to reduce social inequalities and better meet the needs of children and society as a whole. The projects also complement the Pedagogical Innovation Fund initiated within the framework of the National Council for Refoundation.

With the generous subsidy and the innovative approaches they bring, the “Connected Guyana” and “School outside the walls” projects are poised to make a significant impact on education in Guyana and Mayotte. By embracing new forms of collaboration and leveraging technology, these projects aim to create better learning environments and equip students with the skills they need for the 21st century.

How does the “Connected Guyana” project bridge geographical gaps and enable students to benefit from teachers’ expertise?

Each other and their teachers through video conferences. This will not only bridge the geographical gaps but also enable students to benefit from the expertise of teachers from different locations.

The project aims to create an inclusive learning environment where all students have equal access to quality education. It will also provide professional development opportunities for teachers, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary skills to deliver effective remote instruction. By leveraging technology, “Connected Guyana” aims to revolutionize the education system in French Guiana, making it more inclusive, adaptable, and responsive to the needs of students.

Similarly, the “School outside the walls” project aims to bring education beyond the confines of traditional classrooms. It seeks to dismantle the barriers that prevent children from accessing education, such as geographical isolation, socioeconomic status, or physical disabilities. The project will provide interactive learning experiences to children who are unable to attend regular schools due to various reasons.

Through innovative solutions like mobile classrooms, the project will ensure that no child is left behind in their educational journey. These mobile classrooms will travel to remote areas, reaching out to children who are unable to access regular schooling. The project will also employ technology to provide virtual classes, enabling students to interact with teachers and peers in a hybrid learning environment.

The “School outside the walls” project aims to create a more inclusive education system where every child has the opportunity to learn and thrive, regardless of their circumstances. It will equip children with essential skills and knowledge, empowering them to become active contributors to society.

Both projects highlight the transformative potential of innovative approaches in education. By leveraging technology and breaking traditional barriers, “Connected Guyana” and “School outside the walls” aim to revolutionize the education landscape in French Guiana. The 2 million euro subsidy will provide crucial support and resources to ensure the successful implementation of these projects, benefiting countless students and teachers in the region.

Through these projects, the Rectorate of Guyana and the GIP FICP of Mayotte demonstrate their commitment to promoting inclusive education and providing equal opportunities for all students. By investing in innovative educational initiatives, they are paving the way for a brighter and more equitable future for the children of French Guiana.
