The study “Projections of Agribusiness, Brazil 2022/2023 to 2032/2033”, carried out by the Secretariat of Agricultural Policy of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) and by the Brazilian Agricultural Research Company (Embrapa), estimates that for the year 2032/2033 Brazil could have a total meat production of 36 million t, which would mean 6.6 million t more than today.
Chicken and pork are the ones that should show the highest growth rates in the coming years, with increases of 28.1% and 23.2%, respectively. For its part, beef production should grow by 12.4%.
Despite this, Brazil must continue to lead the international market for the product, supplying 28.5% of world consumption.
The annual growth projected for the consumption of chicken meat is 2.2% over the next decade to reach 12.9 million t. Pork meat moves to second place in consumption growth with an annual rate of 2.2% in the coming years. The projection for beef consumption is at a lower level of growth, at 0.4% per year for the coming years.
Regarding exports, the projections indicate high annual growth rates for the three types of meat. Chicken meat should grow 2.8% annually, beef 2.6% and pork 2.9%. Together, they should add up to a total of 11.7 million tons by 2033, 30.8% more than today. The greatest increases in meat exports should be in pork (33.5%), beef (29.7%) and chicken (30.9%).
Countries such as China, the United States and Japan would follow as the main buyers in a decade. China should import 28.8% of exported beef in 2032, a good opportunity for Brazil, Argentina and other producers. According to USDA 2023, Brazil should increase its beef exports by 37.5% over the next decade. For chicken meat, 24.0%, and the main destinations are Saudi Arabia, sub-Saharan Africa, China, Mexico, Hong Kong, Japan and the European Union. For pork, the main markets are: China, Japan, Mexico, South Korea and the United States.
