According to US officials, China is still considering the issue of military assistance from the Russian Federation, in particular over sending artillery shells of 122-mm and 152-mm calibers.
“As for shells, China does have a lot of 122 and 152 caliber ammunition, and Russia needs a lot of them. Such supplies can increase the offensive potential, so it is looking for where to get them,” Musienko said.
At the same time, China also has other weapons in which Russia could be interested. We are talking about rocket artillery, small arms and drones. Moreover, Russia could receive equipment for the production of, for example, high-precision cruise missiles.
According to the expert, China is not striving for a big war, but is trying to protect the Russian Federation from defeat in order to show that authoritarian regimes also have the right to life and are able to find a way out of the situation by military means. Musienko also emphasizes that China, even if it is considering the possibility of military support for the Russian Federation, it is not for winning the war or significant advances in Ukraine.
So far, China has not made a final decision on helping Russia, since Moscow’s support could undermine its ambitions to become a neutral mediator and cast doubt on the seriousness of “peace initiatives.”
