The continuation of Cyberpunk 2077, currently known under the code name Project Orion, is being developed in cooperation with Epic Games, which is to be a challenge, an opportunity and an honor for the Polish developer.

New CD Projekt games are still a distant future and we won’t learn anything specific about them any time soon. However, the creators did not sink into the ground and shared information about what it is like to work on the continuation of Cyberpunk 2077.
Let’s be clear: Project Orion is in a very early stage of production. This was expressed by Paweł Sasko, lead quest designer in Cyberpunk 2077, during an interview for TheNeonArcade channel on YouTube (via Rock, Paper, Shotgun).
The Pole confirmed that the project is currently in the “concept and pre-production phases” and is supervised by a very modest team. This is a deliberate move, because – according to Sasko – at this stage, too large a group of creators only complicates the work, and it is better if this initial “iteration” is handled by a group of “several shareholders” to maintain a coherent vision consistent with the nature of the brand.
It should also be remembered that with the release of the Phantom Liberty expansion for Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt is abandoning its proprietary REDengine in favor of a new technology: Unreal Engine 5. This in itself is quite a challenge – and an “opportunity”, as Sasko put it. Cooperation with the engine manufacturer, Epic Games, will also be an honor for him. In the ranks of the huge company of EU developers, there is no shortage of experienced engineers from whom a Polish developer can learn a lot:
Collaboration with Epic [Games – przyp. red,] is something completely new for us: on the one hand, it is a challenge, but on the other, it is an honor. It’s a huge studio – they have an incredible number of engineers, very experienced engineers. There is a lesson in this for us.
I don’t see the challenge as a hindrance, but rather as an opportunity – I see so many opportunities to do something amazing, so I’m really looking forward to it, but there’s so much to do on that front

Of course, we won’t see the results of this work soon. The team is just looking for people for leadership positions and learning and preparing EU 5 tools for Project Orion and other games.
This also applies to the fourth Witcher, which is also being developed using the latest generation of Epic Games technology. However, this project will not reach players soon – at the earliest in 2025, if recent information is to be believed. At least we will have to wait less for “4” than for Project Orion and the remake of the first part of the Witcher saga by CD Projekt Red.

He has been interested in video games (and not only video games) for years. He completed his master’s degree in Polish studies at the University of Warsaw with a thesis devoted to this topic. He started his adventure with Gry-Online.pl in 2015, writing in the gaming newsroom, and then also in the film and technology newsroom (he also contributed to the games encyclopedia). He started with platform games and remains a huge fan of them (including metroidvanias), but he is also interested in card games (including paper games), fighting games, soulslikes and basically everything related to games as such. Don’t ask about graphics issues – after a few hours the author can admire pixel characters from games dating back to the Game Boy era (if not older).
