The Regrouping of shelters for women victims of domestic violence brings together 47 shelters and shelters spread across Quebec. It works with political authorities to defend the rights and interests of abused women and children and to increase their safety. It develops awareness strategies to better understand, detect and act on domestic violence. It supports the development of its member houses.
JOB SUMMARY
The incumbent will be responsible for supporting the development of new support and shelters for women victims of domestic violence in certain regions of Quebec where a significant lack of shelters has been observed. She will put her expertise at the service of the administrators and coordinators of start-up houses and will accompany them in all stages of their real estate project (installation in temporary premises + acquisition/construction of the final house). The incumbent will also work in collaboration with members of the Regroupement team who, at the same time, will be responsible for supporting the development of the service offer of these new houses.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Inform, advise, support the CAs and management of start-up houses in:
- the definition of their real estate project with regard to the number of accommodation places targeted
- communications and meetings with partners (GRT, municipalities) and professionals involved (architects, engineers, etc.) in the development phase of their real estate project
- negotiations for the acquisition of land or building
- the development of the business plan and the deployment of a consistent financing strategy
- the development of grant applications to the authorities concerned (Société d’habitation du Québec, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, municipalities and other financial partners)
- the procedures and requests with their municipality, with regard to applicable standards and regulations: zoning modification, occupancy or construction permit, universal accessibility, etc.
- monitoring of contractual agreements with the various professionals involved
- budget management or monitoring
- site visits and meetings throughout the construction or renovation phase of the buildings to ensure compliance with the budget, deadlines, architect’s plans, service agreements, etc.
REQUIREMENTS
- University degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. architecture, urban planning, project management, community organization)
- Significant experience in the development and management of community and social real estate projects
- Experience in mobilizing partners
- Great political sense and fluency in negotiation
- Rigor, diplomacy, autonomy and great sense of organization
- Ability to work in a team
- Excellent communication skills, oral and written (persuasion, negotiation)
- Good knowledge of English
- Ease of getting around/driver’s license
- Great interest in working in a feminist organization fighting against domestic violence
