Together with the new football stadium, a school complex is now also planned on the Hardturm site in the city of Zurich. A total of 18 classrooms are to be accommodated in one of the two high-rise buildings of the overall «Ensemble» project.
For the new Hardturm school, rooms for 6 primary and 12 secondary school classes are to be rented in the west tower, as the city announced on Thursday. The teaching and supervision areas are to be realized on the ground floor and on the upper floors 1 to 5.
The outdoor areas of the school are planned in the vicinity of Tower West. In addition, two sports halls will be available in the shell part of the new football stadium. The move into the new school is planned for summer 2025. It is intended to accept pupils from the Limmattal and Waidberg school districts.
Since the city of Zurich hardly has any vacant space, unconventional solutions are also necessary for the construction of new school complexes, the city wrote in the message. With the additional rooms, the Hardturm area will be “even more diverse and lively” and the urban school space planning will remain on course.
The “Ensemble” project with a football stadium with 18,000 seats, a cooperative housing estate with a double kindergarten and two high-rise buildings with apartments and commercial space will be complemented by the Hardturm school, according to the city. For example, the sports halls could also be used by clubs outside of school and football operations.
