“Project 150”. Omar Berrada revealed when Manchester United is expected to win the title

Omar Berrada told employees that Manchester United is aiming to win the Premier League in 2028. The executive director of the Red Devils wants the club’s 150th anniversary to be honored with the national championship.

Manchester United wants to regain the title of the best club in England by 2028 – donosi Lauri Whitwell z The Athletic. Red Devils chief executive Omar Berrada declared the ambitious plan to his staff during a meeting at Old Trafford. The Frenchman, who was hired this year after more than a decade working for Manchester City, talked about “Project 150”. It was named this way due to the coincidence of the planned date of winning the national championship with the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the club, still under the name Newton Heath. Similar ambitions also apply to the women’s team.

As Whitwell writes, the ambitious declaration was met with mixed reception by employees in the wake of job cuts introduced by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his colleagues to reduce expenses. Berrada noted that achieving the goal in less than four seasons will take a lot of work. After all, although United won the FA Cup, winning the second trophy during Erik ten Hag’s term, they finished last season in eighth position in the league.

The chief executive’s declarations are in line with Ratcliffe’s declarations in February when he took over the 20-time English champions’ shares. The Athletic quotes his words:

“This is not a 10-year plan. Fans would run out of patience if it lasted that long. We’re talking more about three years. It’s unreasonable to think that we would play the same football as Manchester City played against Real Madrid next season. If we make false promises to people, they will be disappointed. The direction in which we are heading is crucial so that they can see that we are making progress. In 2028, the club will celebrate its 150th anniversary. If our trajectory is right so that we achieve our goal in this period, we will be satisfied. It’s not easy to turn Manchester United into the best football club in the world. The ultimate goal for Manchester United – and always will be – is to fight to win the Premier League and the Champions League.”
