The Private Investment Promotion Agency (PROINVERSIÓN) awarded the German Peruvian consortium “LSH Consulting Engineers SAC Consortium – Water Energy and Mining Ingenieros Consultores SA” the Good Pro for the preparation of the pre-investment technical studies of the Chinecas project (formulation phase). In this way, a very important step is taken to make this great project a reality, for the benefit of the Ancash region and the country.
The other bidder who submitted his proposal was “Technical Engineering Services of Consultaintgr Branch of Integral SA-Colombia and Idom Consulting, Engineering, Architecture, SA Branch of Peru.”
The Chinecas project could become a new Chavimochic, due to the potential for agro-export development. For this reason, PROINVERSIÓN, in coordination with the Regional Government of Ancash and with the participation of political, social and economic actors in the region, takes on the challenge of achieving its definitive structuring.
The pre-investment studies that are being awarded will allow obtaining the declaration of viability of the project, on which the evaluation report will be prepared that will define whether the project will be developed as a Public-Private Association (PPP) within the framework of a process of promotion of private investment. If so, PROINVERSIÓN will be in charge of designing and conducting, in coordination with the Regional Government of Ancash, the structuring and transaction phases of the project and the tender for comprehensive projects that will allow the development of this large project to be awarded to a specialized private operator.
TOWARDS MODERN AGRICULTURE
The Chinecas project, in which a preliminary estimate of US$ 700 million will be invested, will allow the waters of the Santa River to be diverted and incorporate around 50 thousand hectares of new land and improve the irrigation of around 33 thousand hectares in the valleys and intervals of Santa Lacramarca, Nepeña, Casma and Huarmey, as well as the supply for population use in the localities in its area and the hydroelectric uses that are viable.
Thanks to the project, a new main intake and reservoirs will be built to regulate the waters of the Santa River, in addition to the extension of its main channels to the Casma and Huarmey valleys; Currently, the Chinecas project has a set of works built and in operation: two intakes on the Santa River, canals and tunnels with extension to the Nepeña valley.
The new infrastructure of the project, the improvement of existing works will allow it to have water throughout the year, which will make possible its orientation towards modern agriculture with high agro-export potential, generating a multiplier effect in the economy, employment and trade. outside Ancash and the country.
HEALTH INSURANCE
The Good Pro of the pre-investment study has occurred within the framework of the inter-institutional agreement signed in 2023 between the Regional Government of Ancash and PROINVERSIÓN.
Under the agreement, all PROINVERSIÓN interventions will be carried out in coordination with the Regional Government of Ancash and the Chinecas Special Project, who during the study stage will become the Project Formulating Unit.
The agreement also regulates the commitment of the Regional Government and the Chinecas Project to clean up and have available and under their custody the land for the works and the lands that are planned to be incorporated, guaranteeing their timely availability free of occupants and charges that prevent are intended for the purposes of the project.
