Prohibition on tractors in farmers’ protest not extended in North | Inland

“The presidents of the three security regions assume, following discussions with Farmers Defense Force and other farmers’ organizations, that any new demonstrations will be notified, so that there is an opportunity to assess them for security and public order,” write the security regions. “Should it become apparent that demonstrations are not being reported and that this means that agreements cannot be made, the presidents of the security regions will take further measures. This also happens if agreements made are violated. ”

The reason for the ban, which came into force a week ago, according to safety regions was that previous demonstrations led to congestion and dangerous situations.

Summary proceedings

Action group Farmers Defense Force caught on Thursday at the court in Groningen. They wanted to get the ban off the table by means of summary proceedings, because a security region would not have the authority to impose the ban. The judge disagreed and ruled that the security region may impose such a ban.

The chairmen of the safety regions of Groningen and Friesland emphasize that not renewing the ban “is not a license for blockades with agricultural vehicles or for other unsafe behavior.” The deputy chairman of the Drenthe Safety Region says he wants to give farmers the space to make their point, “but in a safe and responsible manner.”

Demonstration bans still apply to tractors in the IJsselland region and in the municipality of Nijmegen. Farmers are no longer allowed to demonstrate tractors in Nijmegen from Saturday evening to Monday 20 July. In IJsselland, the ban applies until Friday, July 17, 6 p.m.

Security Council Chairman Hubert Bruls announced on Sunday to discuss the topic with the 25 security regions on Monday evening.
