Not a department in the region escapes the progression of the virus within the population during the first week of 2021.

It was a dreaded effect of family reunification at the end of 2020 but the link has not yet been scientifically established. In the light of the data from Public Health France published this Friday, January 15, epidemiologists note an acceleration of viral circulation in the Aquitaine departments.

In the first week of 2021, 10 to 17 days after Christmas Eve, there is an increase in the weekly number of new cases.

This increase concerns all age groups and all departments. The Landes department is at the start of 2021 the most exposed with 165.8 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
The Gironde shows a strong increase with 148.7 cases, against 94.8 a week earlier.
Lot-et-Garonne with 144.7 cases., For the record 98.4 the previous week which nevertheless testified to a decline for several weeks.
Finally, the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, which was at the forefront for weeks and which today stands at 138.3 recorded cases.
Proportionally, the increase is most marked in Dordogne with + 62%. However, the department remains the least affected with 99.9 confirmed cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The last week of 2020 stood at 61.7 cases. The Dordogne has been less affected than the other Aquitaine departments since the start of the epidemic.

A reproduction rate of the virus higher than the national average

The R, that is to say the reproduction rate of the virus for the Nouvelle Aquitaine region was on January 10 at 1.30 against 1.19 for metropolitan France, confirming the acceleration of the viral spread.
Despite the observation of this acceleration in viral circulation, it is nevertheless too early to establish a causal link with the end-of-year celebrations and this development which may also correspond to a natural dynamic of the epidemic.
