Along with Signal, Whatsapp is one of the last popular messengers that doesn’t allow users to edit messages — even Messages got the feature last fall with the release of iOS 16.
But at Whatsapp something has been happening in this regard for some time: WABetaInfo has for the first time First indications of this in the Android beta in mid-2022 discovered later in Whatsapp Desktop Beta and in November 2022 it was the turn of the iOS beta.
WABetaInfo
now are new hints in Whatsapp Beta for iOS version 23.6.0.74 popped up: Added a message here indicating that a message has been edited in the latest version of Whatsapp for everyone. According to WABetaInfo, as soon as the feature is published, it should be possible to edit messages for 15 minutes. These are then also marked with a small note next to the time stamp.
It is still unknown when exactly the function will be included in the public version of Whatsapp, but regular signs of life are welcome. If Whatsapp is currently busy with hints, it indicates that the function itself is already quite advanced. We therefore consider a release before the end of this year to be likely.
