Progress in Talks with Stellantis and General Motors, No Progress with Ford: UAW Strike Update

United Auto Workers (UAW) president Sean Fine has announced significant progress in talks with automakers Stellantis and General Motors to end the workers’ strike, but no progress has been made with Ford.

At the moment, a total of almost 34,000 workers are on strike against the three big US car manufacturing companies “General Motors”, “Ford” and “Stellantis”.

“I am pleased to announce that we have seen significant progress in our discussions with Stellantis and General Motors,” says Fain. “But Ford continues to pretend they can’t afford to meet our demands.”

Fain said that each of these automakers has now essentially agreed to a 23% wage increase over four years.

As reported, the employees of “Ford”, “General Motors” and “Stellantis” are on strike from September 15, and this is the first time that the strikes are taking place in all three major Detroit automobile companies at the same time.

The UAW has demanded a 40% increase in workers’ wages, in line with the pay increases of General Motors, Ford and Stellantis managers in recent years. Also, among the union’s other demands are the establishment of a four-day work week and the restoration of automatic wage increases tied to inflation. The union also wants stricter limits on how long a worker is considered a temporary worker who does not receive union support.
