On the first anniversary of the Global Development High-Level Dialogue, the Progress Report on the Implementation of the Global Development Initiative (hereinafter referred to as the “Report”) was officially released in Beijing. The first progress report on the global development initiative pointed out that over the past year, the global development initiative has received extensive response from the international community, and positive progress and multiple early harvests have been achieved.
International public opinion spoke highly of the positive and important role of the initiative in building international consensus on development and accelerating the realization of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. We are willing to continue to work with China to accelerate the implementation of the initiative and help achieve all sustainable development goals as scheduled.
Initiative has made positive progress
In September 2021, China put forward a global development initiative, which received extensive and positive responses from the international community. More than 100 countries and international organizations supported the initiative, and nearly 70 countries joined the “Group of Friends of the Global Development Initiative” established on the platform of the United Nations.
As Mao Ning, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said in response to a reporter’s question about the report, since the Global Development Initiative was put forward for more than a year, with the joint efforts of all parties, the cooperation path has become clearer, the cooperation mechanism has been improved day by day, and the cooperation in the eight key areas has been promoted in an orderly manner. , The project library is constantly enriched, development resources are gradually gathered, showing a good trend of focusing on key points and comprehensive advancement, effectively gathering international development consensus, mobilizing development and cooperation actions, and achieving many early harvests.
The report shows that as of now, half of the 32 practical measures included in the “Outcome List of the Global Development High-Level Dialogue” released in June 2022 have been implemented or achieved early results. In September 2022, during the ministerial meeting of the “Group of Friends of the Global Development Initiative”, more than 10 of the first batch of 50 practical cooperation projects in the Global Development Initiative Project Bank have been implemented, and the remaining projects are being actively promoted. At present, the total number of practical cooperation projects in the project library has exceeded 100, and nearly 40 developing countries have benefited from them. At the same time, the Chinese government has approved and arranged 1,000 human resources development cooperation projects in the past year, and has provided 20,000 training places, basically covering all the countries of the “Group of Friends of the Global Development Initiative”.

At present, multiple challenges such as sluggish recovery of the world economy, geopolitical conflicts, and food crises are intertwined and superimposed, and the advancement of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is struggling. In this context, many foreign guests who participated in the report conference said that the global development initiative proposed by China has become a “beacon” of global development and has promoted the accelerated implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It is expected that all parties will achieve more practical cooperation results under the framework of the global development initiative, and give a boost to the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
International public opinion praised the Global Development Initiative for fully covering the 17 sustainable development goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which effectively mobilized the international community to increase investment in development resources, which is conducive to building consensus to deal with the global development deficit and bring the sustainable development goals back on track .

Kangbosi said that this year will usher in the mid-term assessment of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and more than 30% of the goals are still stagnant or even regressed. In this context, the “accelerator” role of global development initiatives has become more prominent.
Asim Hanafi, the Egyptian ambassador to China, expressed his belief that China’s global development initiative will effectively help countries advance the common cause of implementing the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and become a platform for sharing development experience and promoting cooperation among countries.
In addition, the diplomatic envoys of many countries and representatives of international organizations in China who participated in the report conference believed that China will integrate and upgrade the South-South Cooperation Assistance Fund into a “Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund”, increase the capital by 1 billion US dollars, and support the United Nations development agencies to carry out a A series of practical projects have strongly supported the efforts of relevant developing countries to implement the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The first high-level meeting of the Global Shared Development Action Forum will be held in Beijing in early July, with the theme of “China’s Initiatives and Global Actions”. In this regard, the international public opinion believes that this high-level meeting sent a clear signal that China is willing to work together with the international community to promote the steady and long-term progress of the proposed practical cooperation, contribute to the accelerated implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and not allow No country, no one is left behind.
Improve the well-being of developing countries
The Global Development Initiative effectively improves the well-being of people in developing countries, especially the “Group of Friends of the Global Development Initiative”.
Campbell, Nicaragua’s ambassador to China, pointed out that the global development initiative makes the concept of development the core, and truly pays attention to the fundamental needs of developing countries. “I think global development initiatives are for the development of the world, especially for the development of developing countries.”
Somali Ambassador to China Awale said that the global development initiative is very consistent with Somalia’s own development plan, and the initiative’s focus on cooperation, innovation and tolerance has resonated deeply among the Somali people.
“Laos appreciates China’s joint promotion of global development initiatives with other countries and multilateral institutions such as the United Nations, and attaches great importance to supporting education and poverty reduction in developing countries.” said Saisana Sitipon, executive vice chairman of the Laos-China Cooperation Committee.
Venezuela will join the “Group of Friends of the Global Development Initiative” as a founding country in January 2022. Nasali Carolina Berrios, an expert on human rights and international law at the Department of Multilateral Organizations of the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said: “The global development initiative proposed by China is another successful measure to jointly promote development. got together.”
Peter Kagvanga, director of the African Policy Research Institute in Kenya, spoke highly of China’s global development initiatives.
