Program “Peloponnese 2021-2027: On the Path of Sustainable Development – 2024-09-09 03:00:45

Local and urban authorities are called upon to formulate and implement Integrated Spatial Investment (ISP) and Sustainable Urban Development (SUD) strategies, which will contribute to strengthening the economy, infrastructure and social cohesion in their areas of responsibility.

The “Peloponnese 2021-2027” program represents an important initiative for the sustainable development and improvement of living conditions in the local communities of the Peloponnese. With targeted investments and strategies focused on strengthening infrastructure, environmental protection and social cohesion, the Peloponnese Region is attempting to strengthen the local economy and create a better future for the region’s residents.

The Role of OHE and SVAA Strategies

The “Peloponnese 2021-2027” program is based on two central strategies, Integrated Spatial Investments (SIP) and Sustainable Urban Development (SUD), which aim to promote actions that substantially upgrade local communities. These strategies have as a basic principle the connection of economic, social and environmental needs, in order to create the foundations for a sustainable future.

The Regional Governor of Peloponnese, Dimitris Ptochosemphasized the importance of these strategies during a program presentation, stating:
“With the strategies we implement, we create the foundations for the development of our local societies through targeted projects that will have a direct and positive impact on the daily lives of citizens. The Region of Peloponnese is actively supporting local authorities in this new development model, which promotes sustainability, economic prosperity and social cohesion.”

Funding and Priorities

Within the framework of the “Peloponnisos 2021-2027” program, they have been secured in total 89.86 million euros for the implementation of the OHE and SBAA strategies. More specifically, 33.36 million euros are intended for Integrated Spatial Investments (SIP), while 56.5 million euros are committed to Sustainable Urban Development (SUD) strategies.

The OHE strategies are focused on areas that need special support, such as the Municipalities of Sikyonia, Xylokastro-Eurostini, Nemea, Nafplio, Epidaurus and Ermionida. Investments in these areas aim to improve local infrastructure, enhance environmental sustainability and promote the local economy.

At the same time, the SBAA strategies will be implemented in urban areas, such as the Municipalities of Tripoli, Sparta, Korinthia and Loutraki-Perachora-Agios Theodoros. Investments in these municipalities aim to improve urban infrastructure, strengthen social cohesion and create jobs through strengthening the local economy.

Cooperation with the Municipalities and Submission of Proposals

The Region of Peloponnese has already started a cycle of collaborations with local authorities, making contacts with mayors to coordinate strategic actions and better prepare projects. Local authorities have until October 24, 2024 submit their proposals, which must include detailed action and funding plans.

The implementation of the projects will follow specific timetables and will be monitored based on defined milestones, thus ensuring consistency and effectiveness in the implementation of the proposed actions.

Sustainable Development and Social Cohesion

The main objective of the “Peloponnisos 2021-2027” program is to promote an integrated sustainable development framework, which will strengthen the local economy, improve infrastructure and strengthen social cohesion. Through the close cooperation of local authorities and the Region, projects are planned that will meet the real needs of citizens, while at the same time promoting sustainability and environmental protection.

The Regional Governor Mr. Ptochos noted that sustainable development is the pillar for the economic and social well-being of the Peloponnese, underlining:
“The future of the Peloponnese depends on our ability to create a development framework that will benefit citizens and communities over time. Our investments must have a long-term impact, both financially and environmentally.”
