On April 25, the co-operation of the Latvian Composers’ Union with Latvijas Radio, started in 2021, continued in the Latvian Radio I studio. Singer Ieva Parša, cellist Ēriks Kiršfelds and pianists Herta Hansen and Aldis Liepiņš met in the program “Discoveries” of the festival “Latvian New Music Day”.
Unheard music has been provided by Mārīte Dombrovska and Leons Amoliņš, as well as vocal lyrics by Aldonis Kalniņš, Juris Kulakovs, Gundega Šmite, instrumental works by Juris Carlson and Ruta Paidere. The concert was conducted by Orest Silabriedis.
In the concert program: premiere experienced Three songs by Leona Amoliņa with John Einfeld ‘s lines for voice and cello as well Three songs by Mārīte Dombrovska with Linard Town poetry. There was also a song by Aldonis Kalniņš from “Ieva’s booklet” with the words of Knut Skujenieks, songs by Juris Kulakovs with the words of Jānis Akuraters, “Two Winter Bagels of Love” by Junds Karlsons Slowly. Cheerful for cello and piano and Ruta Paidere’s solo cello “Perceive Fire”.
The concert on April 25 is part of the program of the festival “Latvian New Music Day”. The musical scope of the festival includes both premieres of newly written works and ancient cherished compositions, as well as compositions from archives that have not been in concert for decades.
Many compositions by Latvian composers, including Andris Dzenītis, Mārīte Dombrovska and Gundega Šmite, are dedicated to Ieva Parša’s voice. Ieva Parša has participated in various performances of large-scale vocal-instrumental works, specializes in interpretations of baroque and contemporary music. One of Ieva Parša’s brightest artistic expressions is the genre of chamber music. Her work has been especially striking in the series “Schubertiade”, “20th Century Vocal Music” and “The Author of the Piano”. The singer is praised for her refined sense of style as well as her great ability to interpret 20th century music. Ieva Parša has received the Latvian Music Award (2008) for the premiere of solo songs and especially experimental lyrics by Latvian composers.
Cellist Ēriks Kiršfelds is the concertmaster of the cello group of the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, and has been the concertmaster of the cello group “Kremerata Baltica” for many years since the foundation of the orchestra. Regularly plays “Sinfonietta Amsterdam”. Lecturer at JVLMA. Won the Latvian Grand Music Award 2009 for outstanding work in the ensemble. He performs actively both as a soloist and in various chamber ensembles. Has made many recordings for Latvian Radio. Member of Spīķeri String Quartet. Under the auspices of the record house “Wergo”, the Spīķeri Quartet has recorded all the string quartets of Pēteris Vasks in two barns that have been praised by critics.
Herta Hansen is an active concert pianist and a member of various chamber music projects. Both singers and instrumentalists want to play with him. And often in concert applications there is a note – “the author of the idea – Hert Hansen”.
In 2013, Herta Hansen received the Grand Music Award in the category “For Outstanding Performance in the Ensemble”. She has collaborated with singers Gunta Gelgoti-Davidčuk, Ieva Parša, Elīna Šimka, Rihards Millers, Armands Siliņš. Reliable interlocutors have been violinist Sandis Šteinbergs, viola player Andra Dārziņa and cellist Ēriks Kiršfelds. She has also played with Inga Sunepa, Andris Pauls, Maksims Novikovs, Anrijs Pitenas, Aigars Raumanis, the Sinfonietta Rīga wind quintet, the Riga Saxophone Quartet and many others.
Her programs have included compositions by Pēteris Plakids, Maija Einfelde, Dace Aperāne, Georgs Pelēčs, Jānis Kalniņš, Tālivalža Ķeniņš, Jānis Mediņš, Jāzeps Mediņš, Jēkabs Mediņš, Selga Mence, Helmers Pavasars and Jāzeps Vītols. Herta Hansen is an associate professor at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, a lecturer in the chamber ensemble and piano accompaniment class, and a concertmaster at the Department of Wind Instruments.
Pianist Aldis Liepiņš is the premiere of works by many Latvian composers – Pēteris Vasks, Maija Einfelde, Juris Carlson, Vilnius Šmīdbergs, Andris Dzenītis, Imants Zemzars. The works of these authors have been recorded on Latvian Radio funds and CDs. Collaborates with outstanding Latvian singers Ieva Parša, Kristīne Gailīte, Krišjānis Norvelis, Viesturs Jansons, as well as the Latvian Radio Choir. Liepiņš has performed with the Latvian Philharmonic Piano Trio together with violinist Jānis Bulavas and cellist Leonas Veldrs. The ensemble has given concerts in Germany, Sweden, Norway, Israel, Japan, France, Poland and Russia. Since 1990 he has been a lecturer at the Department of Chamber Ensemble and Piano Accompaniment at JVLMA. He is currently a professor.
