Diepenbeek –

Young people between the ages of twelve and fifteen with an underlying condition still receive a vaccine. A relief for progeria patient Amber (15) and her family. “We are glad that we are being heard,” says dad Wim Vandeweert.

Following on from the 16- and 17-year-old patients at risk, 12- to 15-year-olds with an underlying condition will now also be vaccinated with Pfizer. Flemish Minister of Health Wouter Beke (CD&V) announced this.

That is good news for fifteen-year-old progeria patient Amber from Diepenbeek, who was still too young to receive a corona vaccine until today. Her father Wim wrote about this to the Ministers of Health. “Yesterday Wouter Beke’s cabinet announced that it was on the agenda, today we also received confirmation,” he says with relief.

“It’s a relief. We are happy that we are being heard and that Amber is still getting an injection,” it sounds. It is not yet clear how everything will work and when Amber can be vaccinated, but the family hopes to know more soon. “We will immediately contact the GP to put Amber on the correct list.”

“This is good news for our family,” says Wim. But he continues to hope that younger patients at risk will soon also have a chance to receive a vaccine. “There are also two-year-olds who are very sick, I’m sure there are thousands of families with the same questions as us.”
