Profile of Jeon Kyung Jun, Shin Tae Yong’s Substitute Candidate in the National Team

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

South Korean coach, Jeon Kyung Jun, entered the replacement market Shin Tae Yong from Indonesian National team. Here’s Jeon Kyung Jun’s profile.

Jeon is not a new face in the sphere of soccer coaching in South Korea. He was Shin Tae Yong’s assistant for three years from 2015-2018.

Long before that, Jeon was one of the accomplished footballers. The man who was born in Seoul, September 10, 1973, started his career with Pohang Steelers from 1992-1999.

Playing as a midfielder with Pohang, Jeon achieved success by winning two Asian Champions Cup (now Asian Champions League) titles in 1997 and 1998.

Jeon then continued his career with Bucheon SK and Jeonbuk Hyundai Motor. In 2006, Jeon decided to have a career in Southeast Asia to strengthen the Singapore club, Home United.

He only played for one season with Home United and then a career in Malaysia. DPMM FC became the last Jeon club to hang up their boots in 2007.

After retiring as a player, Jeon immediately received an offer to coach the Super Reds in 2008. Two years later, he chose to become assistant coach of the South Korea U-17 national team in 2012.

Having managed the South Korean U-14 national team in 2013-2014 and a year coaching Jeju United in 2015, Jeon was called by Shin Tae Yong to return to being an assistant in the South Korean national team age group.

He became Shin Tae Yong’s right-hand man in the South Korean U-20, U-23, and senior national teams. One of the moments in the spotlight was when Jeon and Shin Tae Yong brought South Korea to a 2-0 win over Germany at the 2018 World Cup.

After the 2018 World Cup, Jeon and Shin Tae Yong decided to split up. Jeon accepted the Jeonnam Dragons offer from 2018 to 2022.

Jeon recently left his position as the coach of Jeonnam Dragons. This gave rise to the news that Jeon could replace Shin Tae Yong’s position in the Indonesian national team.
